Melvern Jaeger

MELVERN MEL EARL JAEGER of Houston, Texas died Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital in the Houston Heights. He was born in Burton, Washington County, Texas on March 16, 1937 to Henry and Lillie Jaeger. He was raised on a farm, picking cotton and helping with the family dairy. He graduated from Burton High School in May of 1955, and began working for Houston Lighting & Power Company in June that same year. On June 2, 1957, in Round Top, Texas, he married Theresa Trahan. They raised four children in Houston. He was active in Little League baseball, which he began coaching in 1983, and he went on to serve as president of Northside National Little League in 1991. After 37 years of service to HL&P, he retired in March of 1992. He began a second career in 1993, working as a security officer for Universal Protective and Investigations, Inc. He earned recognition as an officer of the year in 1995. His calm presence and eagerness to help endeared him to the people he knew and worked with. He is survived by his children: Carolyn Jaeger-Ivey, Rita Bierman and her husband Wayne, Sandra Jaeger, and Michael Jaeger and his wife Dawn; his grandchildren: Matthew Kologinczak, Jaccob Kologinczak, Rebecca Kologinczak, Angelica Bierman, Alexander Bierman, Christopher Bierman, Meagan Jaeger, Makayla Jaeger, Olivia Jaeger; his father-in-law Marshall Johnson; his siblings Delores Gummelt, Bernhardt Jaeger, Jeanette Zemanek, Larry Jaeger, Edith Featherston, and Jerry Jaeger; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws. He was predeceased by his wife Theresa Jaeger d. August 13, 2009; his son-in-law Albert Ivey d. March 9, 2005; his parents Henry and Lillie Jaeger; his mother-in-law Rita Johnson; his brothers Wilburn Jaeger and Lanis Jaeger; his brothers-in-law Delvin Gummelt, Robert Zemanek and Fred Stokes; his sister-in-law Patricia Stokes. A viewing will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel at 1306 West Main Street in Brenham Texas 979-836-4564 on Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine, Texas. The service will be conducted by Pastor Preston Weatherly. Pallbearers are Michael Jaeger, Wayne Bierman, Darren Stokes, Steven Jaeger, Warren Jaeger, and David Zemanek. Honorary pallbearers are Matthew Kologinczak, Jaccob Kologinczak, Rebecca Kologinczak, Angelica Bierman, Alexander Bierman, Christopher Bierman, Meagan Jaeger, Makayla Jaeger, and Olivia Jaeger.
