Melvin Schulte

Melvin F. Schulte, 80, of Brenham, died Dec. 21, 2005, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Mr. Schulte was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Brenham, to Fred C. and Hedwig Heins Schulte. He was baptized Nov. 15, 1925, in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church of New Ulm. Mr. Schulte attended Henkhaus School. He served in the Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. On Dec. 7, 1947, he was married to Bernice Jurries in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine, where he served on the council. He was also a member of the Buddy Wright Post of the American Legion, and the Greenvine, Wesley and Latium Fire Department. Mr. Schulte was retired from Brenham Wholesale Grocery. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and being with his friends at the Green Door. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Bonnie Schulte of Brenham and Roger and Linda Schulte of Burton; four grandchildren, Bridget Schulte and fiancée Kris Bartels, Brandon Schulte and special friend Emily Gaskamp, Melanie Schulte and Allison Schulte; and sister, Evelyn Henkhaus of Torrance, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice Schulte, on Aug. 28, 2000; and an infant brother. The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine with Pastor Pamela Werrell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Henkhaus, Lennard Henkhaus, Ralph Henkhaus, Wade Jurries, Marvin Jurries, Royce Jurries, Richard Hons, Arno Jahnke and Edwin Seeker, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy White, Jerry Vaughn, Clyde Fuchs, Mike Benestante and Frank Zinnante. Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
