Melvin Wunderlich

June 21, 1921 — February 28, 2010

Melvin Herbert Wunderlich was born June 21, 1921 to Gustav Adolph and Hulda Muske Wunderlich in the Winedale area of Washington and Fayette Counties. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Melvin graduated from Winedale School on April 27, 1935 having completed all seven years available at that time. On October 13, 1945, he married Evelyn Meinen, daughter of Herbert and Hertha Albert Meinen at their home in Warrenton. Melvin was born, raised, and lived on the original homestead in the Winedale area his entire life. A farmer, rancher, and dairyman, he was one of the first in the area to do custom hay baling and corn picking. With his uncle, Louis Muske, they butchered hogs and supplied sausage and other pork products to stores in the La Grange and Brenham areas during the fifties and sixties. In 1969 he began working for Better Beverages in Brenham and soon became the route supervisor distributing Dr. Pepper and Pepsi products over a multi-county area. He found his true calling in this job and it became his passion. He was a true "people person" and excelled both as a salesman and a manager. Melvin could get along with almost anyone and most of his customers also became his friends. He retired in 1991 to take care of Evelyn. Melvin is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Colette Wunderlich and Roy and Maxine Wunderlich; three grandchildren and their spouses, Cindy and Jonathan Weidemann, Jeffrey and Kristi Wunderlich, and Bradley and Marci Wunderlich; five great-grandchildren: Janette Weidemann, Abby and Cody Wunderlich, and Carter and Bailey Wunderlich; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary Dien and Lee Dell Neutzler; one nephew and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; Evelyn, his wife of 48 years; an infant son, Gary, and one brother and two sisters. Pallbearers are Jeffrey Wunderlich, Bradley Wunderlich, James Wunderlich, Clyde Muske, Douglas Ullrich, and Monty Mayer. Honorary pallbearers are Cindy Weidemann, Alton Haar, Richard K. Ricks, Eva Hughes, Lois Chutz, Sedalia Ullrich, Sue Ellen Stevens, and Morris Wunderlich.
