Melvin Zwernemann

Melvin Louis Zwernemann, son of the late Richard G. & Alma Schultz Zwernemann was born on October 7, 1917 in Waldeck, Texas. He was baptized on December 25, 1917 in Warrenton, Texas by the Rev. Jul. Bosshardt. He was confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 9, 1933 in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine by Rev. Henry Brunotte. Melvin attended the Carmine School and later, served in the United States Army from August 2, 1943 until October 25, 1945. He served in the European Theatre from April of 1944 until July of 1945. Melvin was a member of the Quade-Werchan American Legion Post #338. He was also a member of the Carmine Volunteer Fire Department, Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein, Carmine Lions Club, Carmine Chamber of Commerce and Martin Luther Lutheran Church. Mr. Zwernemann resided at Pflugerville Care Center in Pflugerville, Texas since January of 2003. He died there on the morning of Wednesday, November 23, 2005. Mr. Zwernemann is preceded in death by an infant daughter; son, Ross Wayne Zwernemann, and by his wife, Alida. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jim & Pauline Zwernemann of Cedar Creek, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Joann & Ray Ullrich of Austin, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Carroll of Burton, Texas; grandson and wife, Scott & Crystal Zwernemann of Pflugerville, Texas; granddaughter and husband, lisa & Randy Dobias of Georgetown, Texas; grandson and granddaughter, Geoffrey and Emily Ullrich of Austin, Texas; granddaughter and husband, Kristina & Den Newton of Plano, Texas, and grandson, Cody Carroll of Carmine, Texas. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren: Trevor and Jordyn Zwernemann of Pflugerville, Texas and Mallory and Addison Dobias of Georgetown, Texas. Other family members surviving include his sister, Ida Mae Riske of LaGrange, Texas; sister-in-law, Joyleen Zwernemann of Ausstin, Texas and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Emeric & Myrtle Cruchalla of Houston, Texas. The family will receive callers in Foehner Funeral Home; Burton, Texas on Friday evening between 5:30 and 7:30. The funeral service for Mr. Zwernemann will be held in Martin Luther Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow in the Carmine City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Foehner Funeral Home; Burton, Texas.
