Mickey Venoy Walker, Sr went to his heavenly home on 12/20/2018 @ 11:45am.
Mickey was born on August 30, 1934 to Hugh and Vela Walker in Olgesby, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Geneva Robinson, on June 9th, 1953. Just out of Patrol school, they moved to Brenham in March of 1959 with their 5 year old daughter, Daphne Walker. Mickey was a Texas DPS Highway State Trooper and Washington County Sheriff Deputy from 1959-1966. Later he decided to go into sales at Old Brazos Forge, Brenham, which later was bought by Hussman Refrigeration. He finished his career at Pan Oston in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 2006 where he was named Salesman of the Year for many consecutive years. Soon after his retirement, Pan Oston renamed the award as the Mickey Walker Salesman of the Year Award.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Brenham. Mickey and Geneva joined FBC in March, 1959. He was a member of the Nelson Byman Adult IV Bible Class which he enjoyed very much these past few years.
His zest for hobbies throughout his adult life have ranged from earning his pilot license and flying airplanes; riding cutting horses which he started in his early 50s, but gave it up because “it moved too slow” so he bought a motorcycle. Golf was a weekend passion for more than 50 years and he got close a couple of times of shooting his age in his 70s and he did get the experience a few hole in ones in this passion.
Even though Mickey’s job entailed a lot of weekday travel, he always made time for his family; taking Daphne and her friends to every football/basketball games in the back of his old station wagon; coaching Mick Jr.’s little league baseball teams and then when the baby of the family, Kim, came along, he taught her everything she knew about basketball (at least that’s what he thought). Regardless of his travel commitments, he seldom missed any games or performances and always coached from the sidelines.
Mickey is survived by his lifelong sweetheart of 65 years, Geneva; his son, Mick, and wife Terri and their children, Andrew 23, and Georgia 19 all of San Antonio, Texas and his daughter, Kim and her son, Calum, 21 of Normal, Illinois. Sisters, Wanda Webber and Linda Ivey and husband, Jerry and two half-sisters Joann Lee and Pat Gorman. A sister-in-law, Tince Riley and husband, Kenneth, a brother-in-law, Mike Robinson and wife Darlene, several nieces and nephews and a group of special young people that are like family, Sandra Parker Thielemann, Phyllis Glasscock, Janie Branham, Amy Gardner, Chris Whittaker and Duane Houston.
Mickey was preceded in death by his daughter, Daphne, his parents Vela and Hugh Walker, his mother and father-in-law, JD and Georgia Robinson, his Aunt Ina and Uncle Jim and other aunts and uncles along with nieces, Rhonda Weber and nephew David Ivey.
