Mickle Hodges

March 24, 1950 — June 11, 2016

Mickle Norman "Mike" Hodges, 66, husband of Pauline Wellmann Hodges, died June 11, 2016 at Hospice Brazos Valley Inpatient Facility in Bryan, after a lengthy battle with kidney cancer. Mike was affectionally known to his family and friends as daddy, Paw-Paw, Uncle Mike and Big Mike.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville, with Pastor Sue Beall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Mike Hodges was born March 24, 1950 in Bryan to Norman and Willie Maude Jetter Hodges. He was baptized in the Baptist faith at Clear Creek in Flynn, Texas. In August of 1976, he married Pauline Wellmann.

Mike was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville. He worked as a seismographic driller and construction worker for many years at Buchanan Soil Mechanics, Hamilton-Woodard Construction, and Whitt Porter Drilling in Louisiana. Mike was a car dealer, a junk dealer and an original American picker. He had an eye for potential use and value, and was very resourceful. He always said "if you can't pay cash for it, you don't need it" Mike was a John Wayne type man and very kindhearted. He never met a stranger and everyone who met him, loved him. He was the rock and foundation from whom his family derived its strength. This is not the end for him, but rather the beginning.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Wellmann Hodges of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law Stephen "Chad" and Stephanie Hodges; daughters and sons-in-law Janie Marie and John Hart, and Amy Michelle and Wesley Stewart, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Corrine Elizabeth Estrada, Alexis Michelle Chaudron, Kaden Wesley Stewart, Michael Chad Hodges, Trinity Nicole Hart, Trenton Kaser Stewart, and Chassity Michelle Hodges. brothers: Tommy Gene Hodges; James Lynn Hodges and friend, Brenda Brawley, Donald Ray Hodges, Billy Frank Hodges and wife Debbie, all of Bryan; sisters: Phyllis Hope Sheppard and husband Dan of Iola; Patricia Gail Jackson and husband Gary of Bryan; Nanette Crouch and Cheryl Kay Collins, both of Iola; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Vernon and Katherine Wellmann, Tommy Wellmann and friend Yolanda, all of Brenham; Ralph and Patsy Wellmann of College Station and Merle and James R. Kyzar of Brady.

Also surviving are his special furry dog friends Pebbles, Festus, Bobo, and Gerdie, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Mickle was preceded in death by his beard of 40 years and his long gray hair. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Willie and Norman Hodges; parents-in-law Herbert and Hilda Wellmann; daughter, Tammy Kay Hodges; son-in-law Jacob Chaudron; brothers-in-law Bill Crouch and Charlie Collins, and a great niece, Jillian Owens.

Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Wellmann, B. J. Kyzar, Michael Ray Hodges, Scott Hodges, Timothy Collins, Wesley Collins, Kenneth Davis, Jr., Jason Jackson, Collin Barron, and Cody Foreman. Honorary pallbearers employees of Buchanan Soil Mechanics, Hamilton-Woodard Construction, and Whitt Porter Drilling of Louisiana , as well as his many, many special friends.

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville or Hospice Brazos Valley. The family would like to thank his medical caregivers who kept him going all these years.
