Mildred “Midge” Marcelle Hardin Munz Lubbock
April 9, 1920 – March 12, 2018
Midge Lubbock went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Kruse Village in Brenham, Texas, after a brief illness.
Midge was born on April 9, 1920 in Cleburne, Texas. She had five sisters and two brothers. After graduating from San Jacinto High School, Midge enrolled in business school. During this time she was an active member of Second Baptist Church in Houston. In May of 1939, Midge met Wilson Munz of Brenham and they married September 11, 1940. Upon her arrival in Brenham, Midge immediately became a “welcome wagon” for other newcomers. They were blessed with three children; Pamela, Timothy, and Phyllis. During their fifty-three years of marriage, they enjoyed many adventures where Midge always acted as the navigator. They travelled to almost every state as well as Canada and Mexico. Wilson and Midge’s faith was demonstrated in many ways, including sponsorship of many Billy Graham trips and their involvement in the establishment of the Calvary Baptist Church.
After the passing of Wilson, Midge was fortunate enough to find love again when she met Bill Lubbock. They enjoyed many world travels during their ten year marriage before his passing.
Midge had many talents. She was an accomplished artist, published poet, civic-leader as well as active in in her church as a teacher, choir member and deacon’s wife. As a member of First Baptist Church since 1949, she was recently recognized as the longest living member of that congregation where she joyously served in many capacities including seventeen years as President of the Women’s Missionary Union and in the choir for sixty years. Midge loved the Lord and never worried about anything because she depended on Him and knew He would provide. Her commitment to treating her body as a temple of God was evident in her healthy lifestyle and her continued attendance at Lettie’s exercise for more than 35 years. She served the community as a member of The Fortnightly Club, member of the Fine Arts League, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, lifetime member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Red Hat Society. She also was a substitute teacher and poetry mentor for Brenham ISD.
Midge is survived by her children Phyllis and Michael Glasscock of Brenham, Timothy and Linda Munz of Bedford, Texas and Pamela Sanders of Traverse City, Michigan. Her grandchildren: Melanie and Greg Goodwin of Greenbrier, Arkansas; Jeremy and Lauren Munz of Argyle, Texas, Valerie Munz and fiancé Collin Hall of Austin, Texas, Jennifer (Williams) and Elon Cameron of Traverse City, Michigan, and Christopher Williams and fiancé Jennifer Escudero of Huntington Beach, California. Great Grand Children: Haley and Madison Wise of Greenbrier, Arkansas; her sister Lucy Sandifer Daughtery of Hattiesburg, Mississippi as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
She was proceeded in death by husbands, Wilson Niebuhr Munz and William Lubbock as well as four sisters, two brothers and her parents.
The visitation will be held Thursday, March 15 from 5-7pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Services will be at First Baptist Church on Friday, March 16 at 10am. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
