Milroy Krebs

July 17, 1931 — July 3, 2018

Milroy Henry Krebs, 86, of Willow Springs, went to his eternal rest on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

Milroy was born July 17, 1931, at Sarah B. Milroy Hospital in Brenham, TX, oldest of twin sons of Arthur E. and Hertha Garlin Krebs of Willow Springs in Fayette County. On September 15, 1951, Milroy married Bertheen “Patsy” Veith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelby, by Rev. William Feller. They were blessed with three healthy children: Terrell Milroy, Patty Sue, and Steven Lane, who all learned to sing, play musical instruments and work on the farm.

Milroy was baptized on August 16, 1931, by Rev. Julius Bosshart and confirmed on September 8, 1946. He attended Willow Springs School and ninth grade at Rockhouse Schoenau School, graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1949. After high school, Milroy worked for Wilson Krebs as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver, while working for his Dad on the Krebs Family Farm.

In 1955, Milroy and Patsy bought his Grandma Garlin’s farm in Willow Springs. Along with farming, he worked in construction and as a truck driver. While in his construction business, he helped build the Shelby Church, doing all the plumbing and electrical work. He was privileged to have made the cross in the chancel. At one time he had his own electric business. After the farm became a cattle operation, and along with his construction business, the family operated a cage layer business of 15,000 laying hens for 22 years. Milroy was also a commissioner for Austin County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company for 20 years, retiring in 2012.

Milroy was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school treasurer, Luther League president, and served on the church council for 30 years, 12 years as president. He was church organist for 50-plus years and choir director for 63 years. Milroy enjoyed playing for most weddings and funerals held at St. Paul’s, always taking off work to do so. In those days this was always a voluntary service, and Milroy loved music and being a good servant.

He was a member of the Fayetteville ISD school board, serving as president for 13 years. He was a member and president of the Fayetteville Lions Club and served on the West End Water Supply Corporation for 30 years, 25 years as president.

Milroy loved music and was a musician all his life. He started his first band, “Willow Springs Orchestra”, while still in high school, playing the trumpet. Playing piano, he substituted with the John Baca band, Lee Roy Matocha Orchestra, Happy Cousins, Ray Baca, and Central Texas Sounds. He played piano with Bobby Marek’s Orchestra and most recently with “The Music Masters” that included his son, Terry, and grandson, Michael, until 2011. He enjoyed music and dancing with Patsy; hunting for years in Llano; traveling over a good part of the 50 U.S. states, and even out of the country to the Krebs family homeland of Germany; and spending time with his family.

Milroy was a member of the Industry Volunteer Fire Department, having helped to construct the Fireman’s Hall. He also was a member of the Sons of Hermann Life Association.

Milroy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patsy; children and spouses, Terrell and Sandra Krebs, Patty and Stephen Polasek, and Steven and Becky Krebs; grandchildren, John Anderson and wife Monica, Michael Krebs and wife Darrin, Justin Krebs and wife Julie, Hollie Jobb and husband Charles, Heidi Boswell and husband Joseph, and Tyler Krebs; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Wesley Anderson, Cullen and Calleigh Barrett, Jena and Colt Jobb, Eli and Preslie Boswell and Kaebry Krebs; sister-in-law, Mailien Neidig; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert F. and Bertha Veith; his brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Rosa Lee (Totsie) Krebs; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irene and Walter Oppermann, Leila and Edgar Suchadoll, and Alton Neidig; and great-grandson, Connely Dean Krebs.
