Milton Clarence Eckermann, Sr., 86, of Brenham, died April 10, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Eckermann was born August 25, 1922, in Industry, Texas, to Edmund William and Mary Herbrig Eckermann. He was baptized January 23, 1923, at Industry Methodist Church and was confirmed August 9, 1936, in the same church. He attended Rock House School. Mr. Eckermann served in the Infantry during World War II. After the war he served in the Philippines and Japan. He was in the Signal Corps until July 28, 1946, when he returned home. On October 19, 1947, he was married to Helen Thiel in Salem Lutheran Church of Salem. They made their home in the Phillipsburg community where they did farming and ranching. In November 1961, they moved to Brenham and Mr. Eckermann began working at Brentex Mills. After 32 years of employment, he retired February 25, 1994. Mr. Eckermann loved to work in his garden and raise chickens. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Salem. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tommy Roehling; daughter-in-law, Doris Eckermann; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lorine Eckermann, Wilma Eckermann, Erwin and Dorothy Thiel and Jannet and Earl Rosenbaum; grandchildren, Dana Hughes & husband Kelley, Amanda Roehling and special friend Wesley Stolz, and Joshua Roehling; and great-grandchildren, Grant Christopher Hughes, Lillian Bess Hughes and a great-grandson expected in May. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Eckermann, on March 29, 2009; his son, Milton Eckermann, Jr., on December 2, 2008; his grandson, Kenneth Wayne Eckermann; his parents; and his parents-in-law, Erich and Erna Thiel. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 13 at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem with Pastor Charles Parnell and Pastor Lydia Paterson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Roehling, Kelley Hughes, Wesley Stolz, Buck Eckermann, Arlie Eckermann, Scott Eckermann, Larry Eckermann, Glenn Rosenbaum and Curtis Gurka. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest and Gloria Witte and Ben and Alice Dannhaus. Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church of Salem or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
