Milton Fritz, beloved family man, died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 26, 2018. He spent his final weeks surrounded by family members and supported by his wife, Gladys Marie Kaechler Fritz, with whom he had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in May.
Known for his warmth, integrity, honesty, and sense of humor, Milton tried to pass down those traits to his children, along with invaluable lessons learned throughout his remarkable life journey.
Born into a working-class family in Brenham, TX., on August 28, 1936, during the Great Depression, Milton learned the value of hard work and sacrifice at an early age. He began working the first of many jobs he held as a child at the age of nine. In 1993, Milton retired, after 43 years, from Brentex Cotton Mill.
Milton married his high-school sweetheart, Gladys Marie Kaechler, on May 30, 1953, and they began raising a family together.
He was a devoted family man and was extremely proud of his five children, twelve grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eight grandchildren-in-law, 26 great-grandchildren, one great-grandson-in-law, and three step great-grandchildren. He was extremely proud and excited in soon becoming a great-great-grandfather for the first time in August 2018.
Milton is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Edna (Lorenz) Fritz; son Douglas Fritz; son-in-law James Abel; brother-in-law Wilbert Kaechler; parents-in-law Willie and Rena Kaechler, and nephew David Raska.
Milton is survived by his wife, Gladys; two sons: Michael and his wife, Marie; Christopher and his wife, Sharron; two daughters: Carolyn and her husband Leroy Batts Sr.; Judy Abel; and daughter-in-law Kathy Fritz.
He is also survived by his sister Florine Raska and three nephews and two nieces-in-law.
The family would like to thank the kind staff of AMA Home Healthcare, and especially Rena Burns, his caregiver these past few years.
Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. Following the burial at Prairie Lea Cemetery, there will be a reception at the church.
