Mitchell Mingus

April 22, 1926 — March 20, 2010

Mitchell "Mike" Mingus, 83, of Brenham, died March 20, 2010 in Dubuis Hospital in Bryan. Mike was born April 22, 1926 in Leitchfield, Kentucky to Virgil and Mary Elizabeth Mitchell Mingus. He was educated in Leitchfield area schools, and served with the U. S. Navy during World War II. He continued to serve his country during the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War. Mike was a lifelong member of the James F. Dillon Post of the VFW, serving as commander. Spending time with family and friends was very important to Mike. Holidays, birthdays, and family get-togethers meant the world to him. He treasured time spent with his beloved grandson, Darreck. Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn Kenjura Kleypas and husband Paul of Brenham, grandson Darreck Mark Kenjura of Brenham, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Mike in death were his parents, a son, Mitchell Mingus, Jr. on August 26, 1969, his son-in-law, Darrell Mark Kenjura, and sister, Virginia K. Trimpe. Funeral services for Mitchell "Mike" Mingus will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Charlie Matejowsky officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Shiloh Cemetery in Waller. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Clyde Averitt, Otto Lehrmann, Paul Kenjura, Sam Murski, and Ann Runge will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be directed to the "Lest They Be Forgotten" Documentary Program, honoring Washington County area veterans. Mike was very enthusiastic about this project, which pays tribute to those who served in the military.
