Monroe Gaskamp, 82, of Brenham, died Sept. 22, 2011 at the Care Center of Brenham. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastors Matthew Jacob and William Holzer officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Monroe was born June 24, 1929, in Brenham, Washington County, Texas to Otto and Emma Rosenbaum Gaskamp. He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, Texas and was confirmed at the same church on April 2, 1944. During the Korean War, Monroe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Monroe was united in holy matrimony with Lillian L. Quinn on January 11, 1953 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, Texas. The Lord blessed their union with the gift of two children. As a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church, Monroe served in the Men''s Club as chairman and was an elder. He was plant manager of Brenham Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for 20 years as well as being on the Coca-Cola Bottlers Council and Texas Soft Drink Association. After his retirement from Coca-Cola, Monroe was appointed as associate Municipal Court judge and later as Municipal Court judge. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, daily coffee group with the guys, and a yearly hunting trip with buddies. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Lillian; his daughter, Darlene Koester; sisters, brothers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert Mutscher, Louise Gaskamp, Henry and Alma Gaskamp, Jim and Thekla Lueckemeyer, Herbert and Hattie Gaskamp, Walter Gaskamp, Alfred Jess Gaskamp, Otto Gaskamp Jr. and Steve and Joyce Mantey. Surviving and mourning his loss are his son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Theresa D. Gaskamp; granddaughter, Hannah Stockton and husband Jackie; son-in-law, Don Koester and wife Ann; sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Meta Mutscher, Annie Gaskamp, Nelda Gaskamp, Raymond and Ann Gaskamp, Melvin and Pearl Gaskamp, Clarence and Bernice Gaskamp, Florence Gaskamp, Blondean and Henry Kuecker and Vivian and Alvin Janes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
