Myrtle Bernice Malkey Ehrig, 84, of Brenham, died Jan. 9, 2007, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Mrs. Ehrig was born Feb. 22, 1922, to Charlie and Lorena Wilkening Malkey in the Rehburg community of Washington County. She was baptized April 23, 1922, in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg by Pastor H. Weber and was confirmed Oct. 4, 1936, in First Lutheran Church of Somerville by Rev. A.W. Weber. Mrs. Ehrig was educated in Somerville public schools and was a graduate of Blinn College s first vocational nursing school class. She was married to Melvin Luedke Sept. 2, 1945 in First Lutheran Church of Somerville. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1961. On Jan. 6, 1963, she married Arthur H. Ehrig in the home of J.D. and Ann Bassel. Mr. Ehrig died Dec. 29, 1997. Active in all phases of church work at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran in Brenham, Mrs. Ehrig held offices in Sunday school and the Women of the Church. She also served as chairman of services of the American Cancer Society and secretary-treasurer of St. Jude Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Ehrig and her husband Arthur were land donors to the community for Blinn College and Brenham Cemetery Association, and they were a factor in the land of Brenham High School. In 2006, she donated land to New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church for a new sanctuary. She enjoyed having coffee with friends, playing bridge and cards and writing simple poetry. Survivors include numerous cousins and a niece by marriage, Gloria Nix, her husband Edsel and their family. Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12 in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Lawrence Bade and Pastor Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Jason Hodges, Greg Hodges, Lowell Nix, Carl Nix, Bryan Nix, James Nix, Mike Randermann and Michael Glover. Honorary pallbearers will be her card club and bridge club, Alfred and Eleanor Weiss, Evelyn Lorenz, Eleanor Tielke, Edna Krause, Gertrude Hohlt, Arthur Fuelberg, August and Mary Pahmiyer, Ella Kramer, Mary Randermann and Gloria and Herbert Janner. Memorials may be given to St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham or a favorite charity. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
