Nancy Curran Hartley, 79, of Latium, died Oct. 18, 2004, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Hartley was born Oct. 9, 1925, in East Orange, New Jersey, to Robert Emmett and Ethel Falstrom Curran. After studying art at the Traphagen School of Fashion, she became a fashion illustrator for Saks Fifth Avenue in New Jork. On Sept. 21, 1946, she married Warren F. Hartley in East Orange, New Jersey. Mrs. Hartley was a devoted wife and a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was a Washington County resident for more than 50 years. Mrs. Hartley created and choreographed numerous Junior and Senior Maifests. She was past director of Washington-on-the-Brazos Association and was involved in numerous other civic and social organizations in Washington County. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Rick and Maud Ella Hartley of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Chuck Machemehl of Brenham; grandchildren, Elisabeth Hartley Hammons and husband Dr. Matthew Hammons, Kate Machemehl Mefford and husband Bobby Mefford, and Joseph Machemehl; brother, Robert E. Curran of Wilmington, North Carolina; and sister, Ethel Joanne Adams of Bernbagap, New Jersey; and special friends and caretakers, Kesha and Sharon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren F. Hartley; daughter, Laurie Beth Hartley; son, Robert Warren Hartley. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 21, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham with Charlie Matejowsky officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Reese Jones, Stephen Stuckert, John Hasskarl, Ron Duckworth, Ted Duckworth, Rob Winkelmann and H.E. Pflughaupt deceased.
