Nelda Schmidt

Nelda "Faye" Schmidt, wife of Hilmer Schmidt, died July 1, 2009 in Methodist Hospital in Houston. She was born November 16, 1926 in Drumright, OK and grew up in Stinette, Texas. From the early 40''s to 1968, she resided in Houston, and from1969 to 1994, in Ocala, FL. In 1994, she moved to Brenham, the place she loved the most. Survivors include her husband, Hilmer C. Smitty Schmidt; son Alan Schmidt; stepchildren Norman, Sue and Darla; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles I. and Lillian Lewis; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved pet dogs, Panda and Heidi. As a breast cancer survivor, she was deeply involved in volunteer work for many great causes, including the Eastern Star, the Thoroughbred Fillies Club, and the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders Association, where she was honored as Woman of the Year. She also served on the board of the New York Thoroughbred Retirement Association, New York Red Hats, Texas Thoroughbred Racing Fillies, and the Bluebonnet Travelers Club. She was also a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. With great love for the Lord and family, she leaves us for a better place. She will be missed by all. Funeral services for Nelda Schmidt will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 6th at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham, with Pastor Darren Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 5th from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be directed to Fellowship Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
