Nellie Ruth Richards, 70, of Round Top, passed away Dec. 29, 2015 at her residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of La Grange, with Rev. J. Paul Bruhn officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Nell Richards was born August 3, 1945 in Collins, Mississippi to William Frank and Pearlie Ruth Hosey Perkins. She was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., where she worked in marketing. On June 29, 1974, she married Gilbert Richards, who preceded her in death.

Nell was a member of the Herb Society of America – Pioneer Unit, serving at one time as president. She was a Master Gardener and served as a volunteer for Second Chance in La Grange, and volunteered for Festival Hill in Round Top. Her family was very important to her, as was her church, First United Methodist Church of La Grange, where she remained a member until her death.

Survivors include daughters Karen Ruth Harrington and husband, Joey, of Brenham, and Jacquelyn Ann Muller of Highland Park, Il; Grandchildren: Cameron Jordan Lee, Kendall Nicole Lee, Rachel Bess Muller, and Giselle Poppy Muller; brothers and sisters-in-law Billye Frank and Brenda Perkins, William Earl and Terri Perkins, all of Sumrall, MS., and Darrell Marvin and Kelly Perkins of Seminary, MS; sisters: Betty Rose Taylor of Hattiesburg, MS, and Mary Lou Nance and husband Mike of Cummins, GA.

Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Wayne Richards, and her parents, William Frank and Pearlie Ruth Perkins.

Serving as pallbearers are her brothers, Billy Frank Perkins, William Earl Perkins, and Darrell Marvin Perkins; grandson, Cameron Jordon Lee; son-in-law Joey Harrington; nephews: Matthew Perkins, Michael Nance, William Lamar Perkins and Johnathan Allen Bennett, and brother-in-law, Mike Nance.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice Brazos Valley or Second Chance (La Grange) or the National Pancreatic Foundation (NPCF).
