Trey Strickland

Nello (Trey) Strickland III, age 65, of Brenham and a former resident of the Hill Country, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 31, 2023.

Trey was born April 7, 1958, in Brenham, the son of Nello Strickland, Jr. and Dorothy Jane (Moerbe) Strickland. A graduate of Somerville High School, Trey served in Law Enforcement and SWAT Narcotics Teams for 13 years and a private investigator for 5 years. For 20 years, Trey was Ranch Foreman, Heavy Equipment Operator and had wrangler experience working for 3 Hill Country cattle, horse and exotic game ranches. A horse trainer, hunting guide and trapper, Trey was known as “Renegade” when he worked at John Wayne’s Alamo Village and Western Shows in Bracketville as an equestrian stuntman, weapons master and longhorn and horse wrangler. His accredited stuntman and weapons mastery movies include, “The Alamo-2004”, Jericho, West Town”. He is remembered for making western art jewelry, cowboy and outdoor cooking and his love of western history and the beauty of God’s nature. Because of his recent years of illness, he remotely attended Parkside Bible Church.

Trey is preceded in death by his father, Nello Strickland, Jr. Trey’s family includes his mother, Dorothy (Moerbe) Strickland of Brenham; two daughters, Nancy Strickland Khan and friend Will of Charlottesville, VA; Ria Strickland and husband Allan Velasquez and her mom, Joyce Svoboda Strickland, all of Katy; three grandsons, Landon, Riley and Aayan; two brothers, Kim Strickland and wife Sherry of Temple; Donie Strickland and wife Sheri of The Woodlands; one aunt, Tilly Harrison of Brenham and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham followed by a gathering of celebration and remembrances beginning at 7:00 PM. Graveside and committal service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville.

Memorials may be made to any favorite charity.
