Nolan George Nitsche, 91, passed away January 25, 2017 in Brenham.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastors Phil Fenton and Brianna Merkle officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Nolan Nitsche was born February 22, 1925 in Oldenburg, Texas to Henry and Frances Jurcak Nitsche. Baptized February 7, 1944, he was confirmed July 4, 1948. Nolan served the country in the Army/Air Force for 3 ½ years during World War II. On October 4, 1947, he was married to Minnie Mae Meinecke.
Mr. Nitsche was retired, having worked as a radio, t.v. and appliance technician for many years. More recently, he was employed at the Brenham State Supported Living Center, from which he was also retired.
Nolan was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church for 69 years until his death. At St. Paul's, he served as usher, and was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood. Other memberships included the American Legion, serving as commander from 1986 until 1987. He was also active in the DAV, VFW, and Sons of Herman, receiving the Humanitarian Award in 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Mae Nitsche of Brenham; son, Doyle Nitsche of Pflugerville; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Steve Rogers of Brenham; grandchildren: Alison and Nathaniel Brayton of Copperas Cove; David Nitsche of Round Rock; Clayton Leonard and friend Fanny Villalobos and daughter, Cecilia Solis of Houston. He is also survived by his granddog, Toby.
Nolan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger, two brothers and five sisters.
Serving as pallbearers are James Richter, Will Jacob, Jr., Darrell Jacob, Glenn Linke, Albert Lee Linke, Randy Daigle, Ben Seeker, and Eric Glenewinkel.
Honorary pallbearers will be past commanders of American Legion Post 48, as well as all of Nolan's nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church or to any favorite charity.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Jon Bode, Dr. Pierre Zoldhely, Dr. Michael Rossmann, and Dr. David Scott.
