Olga Margrethe (Lonborg) Carroll was born in Shanghai, China on June 6, 1918, to a Danish father and a Scottish-Chinese mother. She lived in Shanghai until after the Allies liberated China from Japanese control at the end of World War II. She met and married a young American GI, a petroleum engineer sent to Shanghai by the US Army to help get China’s oil production back online.
Moving to Texas with her new husband Tony Carroll, Olga bore four children – Marianne, Johnna, Lisa, and John – and she lived in Texas most of her adult life, retiring in 1983 as a library assistant at Johnston Junior High School in Houston. She and Tony then bought a ranch near Chappell Hill, where they raised Limosin cattle. Olga sold the ranch after Tony’s death in 1992 and moved into Kruse Village in Brenham, where she lived until moving to Livermore, California, in 2003 to live with her daughter Johnna.
She was active in service to community and church in both Brenham and in Livermore. She had a talent for friendship and was much loved by her many friends. Olga is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, who feel her loss deeply.
A service of interment of ashes will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 1 pm at Atkinson Cemetery, Chappell Hill.
