Olga Mayer

Olga Lilia Leonhardt Mayer, 97, of Brenham, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, in Brenham Rest Home in Brenham. Mrs. Mayer was born on September 6, 1906, in the Winedale community, Washington County, Texas, the daughter of Heinrich and Christiana Kneip Leonhardt. She was baptized on July 14, 1907, in Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Round Top, Texas by Pastor F.A. Bracher. She was confirmed in the Winedale School, Washington County, by Pastor A.H. Falkenberg on September 19, 1920. She was educated in the Winedale School. On November 17, 1931, she was married to Leslie Marvin Mayer at Bethlehem Ev. Lutheran Church in Round Top by Pastor Walter Kralik. They made their home in the Winedale community, near the home of her parents. Later, they moved to the Mayer farm with his parents. In 1941, she, her husband and daughters ventured from the family farm to Leander, Texas, where they lived for six months. Then they moved to Austin and lived there for five years. In 1947, they retured to the Mayer homestead, where she worked hard as a farmer s wife. Later she helped in their egg delivery business, delivering eggs house to house in Austin for many years. In 1989, because of health problems, they moved to Brenham to be closer to their children. Because of illness, she had been in nursing homes since 1991. Mrs. Mayer enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and visiting with family, friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie M. Mayer, on April 15, 1991; son-in-law, Charles C. Nienstedt; and five sisters. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Lydia Ann and Clenwood Heins of Burton and Doris Jean and Franklin Eckert of Brenham; grandchildren, Sharon and James Brod, Charlene Stiewert, Johnnie and Debbie Eckert, Janet and Joseph Green, Beverly Bennett, Roger and Jackie Eckert, Greg Tank Nienstedt, Karen and Allen Schulz, Patricia Zwahr and Julie and Tadd Maass; great-grandchildren, Matt and Emily Brod, Jason Stiewert, Michael and Trevor Eckert, Lynette, Aaron and Larissa Green, Tanya and James Rodriguez, Kristopher Eckert, Jordan Pieratt, Lea Ann and Scott Schulz, April Zwahr, Vance Baker and Peyton Maass; great-great-grandchildren, Brittany and Zach Rodriguez and Jadyn LaShae Ausby; sister, Rosa Lee Hinze of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Loretta Leonhardt of Red Rock; numerous nieces and nephews; stepgrandchildren, Glenda Lucherk and Curtis Heins; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine with Pastor Pam Werrell officiating. Burial will be in Mayer Cemetery in Winedale. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. today and at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13. Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine or Mayer Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
