Ollie Henry Finke, 95, of 1600 South Park Street, Brenham, Texas died September 24, 2006 at the family residence. Ollie Henry Gustav Dietrich, son of Bernhard Charles and Alma Meineke Finke, was born in Burton, Texas on September 26, 1910. He was baptized April 16, 1911 in Burton by Pastor H. L. Schulz; his Bible verse was Mark 16:16. Confirmed September 6, 1925 at Carmine Lutheran Church by Reverend A. H. Falkenberg, Ollie chose Philippians 4:7 as his Bible verse. He attended Harmon Public School and Blinn Junior College. He married Evelyn Nesbit Feist on June 27, 1931 in Burton with the ceremony being performed by Reverend H. Brunotte. The couple moved to Brenham and soon joined St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School for 25 years and was Sunday School Superintendent for 10 years. He served on various committees and as a council member. Mr. Finke also served as a member and president of the Bohne Hospital Board for six years. He taught at the Cedar Hill Public School for four years. Ollie then went to work for the Washington County State Bank where he was employed for 21 years. He served as a Director for the Washington County State Bank for over 40 years. Self-employed since 1957, he did income tax preparation and sold insurance until his retirement in 1972. Upon request between 1985 and 1995, Mr. Finke conducted several classes in stock market investments and financial planning. Ollie played baseball for many years with the LaBahia team ands was a member of the LaBahia Turn Verein for 48 years. He loved to hunt ducks and geese and had his own hunting club for 10 years in the East Bernard area. His main hobby was fishing and fished with many people from the Austin and Houston area. Ollie was affectionately known as Ollie White Bass . S sideline included making the famous Lucky F white bass fishing lures for himself and his many friends. He loved the old-time music, especially polkas and waltzes. He enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He and Evelyn loved to travel, exploring the great beauty that God provides in the natural world. Nature so spectacular that only a living God could create. Ollie was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, parents, and two brothers. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Nathan Otto and June Finke of Dallas, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 8:00 p.m. on Monday. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Lea Cemetery. All members of the card playing group are to be considered Honorary Pallbearers. Memorials may be given to St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham.
