Ora Heine

Ora Nell Heine, 100, of Burton, wife of the late Fred Heine, died Monday, December 14, 2009 in Brenham. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Lutheran Church of Rehburg with the Rev. Steve Cox officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton. Visitation will take place at Memorial Oaks Chapel Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Heine was born January 18, 1909 in Burton, the daughter of Emma Broesche Ehlert and Otto C. Ehlert. She was baptized March 16, 1909 by the Rev. John Meyer in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, and confirmed in the same church by the Rev. H. Weber on October 5, 1924. She was married to Fred Heine on June 28, 1931 by the Rev. C. A. Lehne in St. Paul Lutheran of Rehburg. Her husband preceded in death on March 13, 1987. Survivors include nieces Pauline Bunker and Ruby Heath and a special friend, Joyce Pribilski. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Ehlert Silvers, two nieces, her parents, two brothers, Otto and Lawrence, and her husband, Fred Heine. Mrs. Heine completed her education at Burton and Blinn Junior College with honors. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Blinn College, a Bachelor of Arts from Sam Houston University, with honors, and a Master of Education from the University of Houston. Honors received included membership in Alpha Chi Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She was chosen by Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary professional organization, for key women educators. She served Gamma Omega Chapter as president and held numerous other offices of this society. She was a public school teacher for 35 years with 24 of these years in the Burton Independent School District, and retired from teaching in 1966. Mrs. Heine was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, and a member of the Women of the Church, serving on the building committee for the new church. A charter member of the Burton Heritage Society and charter member of the 96th Div. Assoc. of World War II Auxiliary, she was also a member of the American Legion Post 2442 and of the Restoration Society. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg.
