Ora Nell Sulzmann Kalkhake, 86, widow of Herman Kalkhake, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in Brenham Rest Home. Mrs. Kalkhake was born July 12, 1921 to Paul and Mary Mueller Sulzmann in Shelby, Austin County, Texas. She was baptized May 28, 1922 at St. John Lutheran Church in Warrenton by Pastor M. C. Hoermann, and confirmed September 13, 1936 at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church in Shelby by Pastor Julius Bosshard. She was educated in Skull Creek School. On December 8, 1945, she married Herman Kalkhake in St. John Lutheran Church of Warrenton. Mrs. Kalkhake was employed at Schmid Store in Shelby, Maddox Furniture in Brenham, and also worked part-time alongside her sister, Mildred, at Wilbert''s Café for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Raymond Schultz of Brenham; grandsons Shawn Schultz and wife Abbey of Nacogdoches, and Shane Schultz and wife Kim of Houston; four great-grandchildren: Kasi Alexis and Sydney Alise Schultz, and Avery Alexa and Aiden Ray Schultz; four sisters: Mildred Kalkhake of Shelby; Lillian Barron of Metairie, La.; Gladys Allcorn of Huntsville, and Gertrude Huebel of Columbus. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, in May of 1991, her parents, and her four brothers-in-law. Funeral services for Ora Nell Kalkhake will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Shelby Lutheran Church in Shelby, with Pastor Linda Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Visitation with family and friends will take place from 5:30until 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 25 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Wilbert Kalkhake, Jr., Larry Huebel, Ronnie Huebel, Gary Allcorn, Emory Shead, and Michael Allcorn. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Ora Nell''s caregivers at Brenham Rest Home. Memorials may be given to St. Paul''s Lutheran Church of Shelby, or to your favorite charity.
