Otis Davis

Otis Louis Davis, 87, of Brenham, passed away February 14, 2013 at Emeritus of Cy-Fair Assisted Living. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at First United Methodist Church of Brenham, with Pastor Dale Chance officiating. Graveside services will be under the auspices of Graham Lodge 20 of A.F. & A. M. in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Otis L. Davis was born September 18, 1925 in Batesville, Texas to Gillis and Flara Sofge Davis. At the age of four he, along with his parents and sister, moved to Eldorado, Texas. He entered the Eldorado School system in September 1932, graduating in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy on August 4, 1943, serving in World War II, and was discharged April 9, 1946. He married Jerrie Louise Snead on November 28, 1946 in San Angelo. She preceded him in death, and he married Frankie West in January of 1998. Otis entered Sul Ross State College in September of 1946, graduating with a degree in Businesss Administration in January of 1949. While in college, he attained the rank of Master Mason in January of 1949. He was employed as a teacher until June of 1951, when he entered the oil business. He remained in the oil business, retiring from Amoco Production Company in September of 1992 in Liberal, Kansas. Otis and his wife, Jerrie, lived in Aberdeen Scotland, Caracas, Venezuela, Trinidad W.I. and Sfax, Tunisia, as well as in the Texas cities of Midland and Houston, and Liberal, Kansas. On August 1, 1997, he moved to Brenham. He served on the Board of Directors at Baker Arts Foundation in Liberal, Kansas, and was President of the board for two years, and served as president of the Liberal Garden Club for many years. An avid Texas Aggie fan, he treasured time spent with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Frankie Russell Davis of Brenham; daughter, Debbie Davis of Houston, sons Bill Davis of Brenham and Mike Davis of Houston, Claudia and Cliff Duke of Houston, and Gregory and Cindy West of Brandenburg, Kentucky; grandchildren: Jessie Davis, Jackie Davis, Jeremy Davis, Elizabeth Craig, Nick Casey and Eric Casey. His fellow Masons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to any favorite charity. Funeral arrangements for Otis L. Davis are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
