Payton Elizabeth Simmons, 13, of Brenham, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Hermann Hospital in Houston surrounded by her loving parents and family members. Payton was tragically injured by her beloved horse on her family farm on Saturday, March 17, 2007. She bravely fought for her life and for the family she dearly loved, until just after midnight on Sunday, March 18. Miss Simmons was born March 8, 1994, in Houston, to Kirby Madden and Jean Ann Green Simmons. She was a seventh-grade student at Brenham Junior High School, a member of Cornerstone Christian Community Church and the Girl Scouts. She loved all animals on God s Earth. She had six horses, five dogs and 13 cats and even some chickens at some point in her life. Although she loved them all with compassion and joy, Chelsea, her Weimaraner dog, was her favorite. Now she is truly happy to be with her and her grandmother, Oma. She was loved deeply and passionately by her family. We love you Blondie forever and ever. Survivors include her parents, Kirby and Jean Ann Simmons of Brenham; brothers, Mason Givens Simmons and Cade Waybourne Simmons, both of Brenham; a sister, Kirby Nicole Simmons of College Station; grandparents, Roger Papa and Nancy Nana Simmons of Houston and David Poppy and Barbara Mimi Green of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; aunts and uncles, Meagan Miles, Tyson Miles and Mark Rault and wife Jessica, all of Houston, Nancy Marie Sweeney and husband Jason of Houston and Larissa Lea Bonner and husband Chris of The Woodlands; and cousins, Collin Bonner, Dylan Bonner, Benjamin Sweeney and Warner Rault. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Wanda Lea Oma Zinsmeyer Green; her paternal grandmother, Betty L. Miles; and a cousin, Madison Miles. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 22 at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham with Doug Wheeler and Villard Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery at Independence. Memorials may be given to the Boys and Girls Club or the Brenham Animal Shelter in her name. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
