Phyllis Sutterby

Phyllis Estelle Bellusci Sutterby, age 89, peacefully passed into eternity in the presence of her two daughters on May 13, 2019.

She was born on December 31, 1929 to Francesco Emilio Bellusci and Estelle Krzyzanski in Mount Kisco, NY. She graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in Peekskill, with her classmate and future husband, James Sutterby. After graduation, she worked for her parents and as a bookkeeper for a hotel and an airline, until her children were born. For most of her life, she was a homemaker. She and Jim lived in New York City, Lake Placid, NY, Buck Hill Falls, PA, Washington, CT and Naples, FL while he had a career as a hotel and club manager at fine hotels. She loved leading Bible studies and prison ministries, and was a talented painter. In their retirement, she and Jim smuggled Bibles into Cuba and China as members of Open Doors, USA.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dr. Linda Patterson and husband Randall of Round Top, TX, and Lisa Boughton and her husband Robert of Farmington Hills, Michigan. She leaves four grandchildren: The Rev. Stephanie Patterson Moncrieff and her husband Dr. Scott Moncrieff of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Audra Patterson Farley and her husband Colin Farley of Houston, Julia Patterson of Round Top, and Joel Hartom and his wife Diamond of Waxahachie, TX, and two great-grandchildren: Aria Rose Hartom and Eleanor Anne Moncrieff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Staff Sergeant Anthony Bellusci in 1975, and her husband in 2005.

The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Wednesday, May 15th from 6 to 8 PM. The funeral Eucharist will be held at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 2310 Airline Drive, Brenham on Thursday, May 16th. The Rev. Stephen F. Whaley and the Rev. Stephanie Patterson Moncrieff will officiate. Private Internment will be in Drawe Cemetery in Round Top. The family wishes to thank the St. Peter’s Pastoral Care team, the Brenham Nursing and Rehab staff for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 2310 Airline Drive, Brenham, TX, or Open Doors USA, PO Box 27001, Santa Ana, CA 92799.
