Raymond Gaskamp

August 2, 1924 — January 9, 2017

Raymond Gaskamp, 92, of the William Penn Community, died 01/09/2017 and entered eternal peace with the Lord and his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy Ann (Schwartz) Gaskamp, who preceded him in death 9 days earlier on 12/31/2016.

He was born August 2, 1924 in the William Penn Community of Washington County to Otto and Emma (Rosenbaum) Gaskamp. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn. On May 26, 1951, he married Dorothy Ann (Schwartz) Gaskamp, also at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Raymond was a kind and gentle man who never met a stranger. He proudly served his country under General George S. Patton in World War II alongside his twin brother Melvin. The pride of his life was his family, especially his grandson. He always looked at life as today was the best day he ever had and tomorrow would be even better.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Brenda Gaskamp of Washington; grandson, Ryan Gaskamp of Houston; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Bernice Gaskamp of Brenham; sisters-in-law, Annie Gaskamp of Brenham, Florence Gaskamp of Richmond and Eleanor Pearl Gaskamp of Washington and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred (Fritzie) and JoAnn Schwartz of Brenham. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Alma Gaskamp, Herbert and Hattie Gaskamp, Walter Gaskamp, Alfred and Nelda Gaskamp, Melvin Gaskamp, Otto Gaskamp Jr., Monroe and Lillian Gaskamp; sister and brothers-in-law, Louise Gaskamp, Jim and Thekla Lueckemeyer, and Herbert and Meta Mutscher; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Gertie and Otto Kramer.

The family would like to thank AMA Home Care, Kruse Village and Brazos Valley Hospice for the care provided. A special thanks to Laverne Carr, Loretta Fields and Beverly Schlabach for making a difference in Raymond and Ann's life with your care and friendship.

Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, January 13, 2017 from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Mark Moldenhauer officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Delwin Gaskamp, Kenneth Mutscher, Terry Lueckemeyer, Eugene Gaskamp, Vernon Gaskamp, Charles Gaskamp, Roger Gaskamp, Fred Gaskamp, Doyle Gaskamp, Tommy Gaskamp and Don Wellmann.

Funeral arrangements for Raymond Gaskamp are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
