Raymond Kenneth Harris was born February 27, 1923 in Kountz, Texas, and called home to be with the Lord Jesus on May 14, 2008. The fourth son of Marvin and Leila Harris, Raymond and his family moved to Houston from Merryville, Louisiana in 1929. During WWII , Ray enlisted at the age of 17 and served with honor in North Africa and Europe from 1941 through 1945, where he was awarded a Bronze Star for valor. Returning from the war, Ray married his sweetheart, Billie L. Suggs and resided in Houston''s east end and their first child, Rae Ann was born in 1948.. In 1950, Ray , Billie and daughter Rae Ann moved from Houston to Pasadena, Texas, and had another daughter, Sharon in 1951, and a son, Geoffrey.in 1956. Ray became a Christian in the late ''50s and was ordained to the ministry at Pasadena''s Second Baptist Church in 1958. Later, he became a member of Thomas Avenue Baptist Church, during which time he served bi-vocationally as pastor for several churches in the Magnolia, Coldspring areas, and what is now The Woodlands. Ray concluded his pastoral ministry in the early ''70s at Calvary Baptist Church in Houston''s east end. He retired from Red Arrow Freight Line as Sales Manager in 1984 and moved to Chappell Hill, Texas, where he was a member of First Baptist Church in Brenham. He served FBC and resided in Chappell Hill for the next 24 years, until the Lord called him home in 2008. Ray had a heart for the lost, and is no doubt rejoicing with the many whom he led out of the darkness to the Salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ. Preceded in death by Parents – Marvin and Leila Harris; Brothers – Varney and William Harris Daughter – Rae Ann and her husband Jim Markum Survived by Wife of 62 years – Billie Louise Daughter – Sharon Dietrich and her husband Greg Son – Geoffrey Harris and his wife Diana; Brothers – Jimmie Harris and his wife Lou; Barron Harris and his wife Iris; Sisters – Alice Sanders and Barbara Wright Grandsons – Jonathan Markum and his wife Kera; Christopher Dietrich and his wife Ryan; Joshua Harris and his wife Rebecca; Granddaughters – Stephanie Neuffer and Lucy Dietrich; Great-granddaughters – Cody Dietrich, Hannah Neuffer; and two more great-grandchildren on the way from Christopher and Ryan and Jonathan and Kera!
