Raymond Saeger

April 4, 1935 — April 18, 2015

Raymond Deutrich Saeger, 80, of Brenham, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ray was born April 4, 1935 in Brenham, Texas. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 11 months, Ray contracted polio. The disease hindered his speech and cognitive development and left his left arm and leg crippled. Regardless of his physical and speech limitations and with the guidance of his mother, he made the most of his life by "never meeting a stranger". His first impression was usually a warm smile, handshake, and the greeting "Hi you!?" He loved people and making new "Buddies". Ray loved to collect things, especially caps and tools. When he was able, he often push mowed the property where he and his mother lived on West Main St. When the job was complete, Ray would sit in his chair, enjoy a cold drink, and wave at people as they drove their vehicles past his home. As a matter of fact, that''s the way Ray spent most days. He effectively led a simple yet fulfilling life. Ray is survived by his sister, Beverly Saeger Jaster of Brenham; his nephews and their spouses, Mark and Tami Jaster of Brenham, Michael Jaster of Seabrook, and Jason and Heidi Jaster of Burton; great-nephew, Saeger Jaster of Burton; numerous cousins other relatives, and the countless "buddies" he made over the course of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna Rosenbaum Saeger and his brother-in-law, Donald Jaster. Graveside services for Ray Deutrich Saeger will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 21, 2015 in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pastor Karen Nelson will officiate. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 this evening. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.
