1926 – 2017

Robert Alfred Gardner, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Brenham, Texas.

Bob was born January 27, 1926 in Fort Worth, Texas to Al and Constance Gardner,

and grew up in Coleman, Texas. After serving in the Air Force, he attended the

University of Texas and graduated with a degree in Petroleum Geology. While at

the University, he ran track, was a member of the band in addition to numerous other clubs and organizations, and met Nancy Jane Martin, his beloved wife of 47 years

and the mother of his children. Bob was a celebrated geologist and found many oil

and gas fields in north Texas and west Texas over a long and distinguished career

with American Trading, Mitchell Energy and Walter Oil and Gas. He had many

passionate pursuits including fly fishing , wing shooting , tennis, and later golf.

With the exception of golf, he was very proficient at all of them.

After the death of his wife Nancy, Bob married Wilminor Carl later in life. They

had many happy times traveling and enjoying their many friends in Brenham and

Houston. He was a longtime member of the Houston Petroleum Club, the Houston

Racquet Club, the Brenham Country Club, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and a board

Member of the Baylor Scott & White Foundation. Bob was preceded in death by

his wife Nancy Gardner, his parents, and his sister Mary Francis Kroll. Surviving

Bob is his wife, Wilminor; his children David Robert Gardner and wife Nancy; Beth

Gardner Florence and husband John; and his grandchildren, William Florence, John

Thomas Florence, Mary Katherine Gardner, Robert Gardner and Charley Gardner.

Bob is also survived by his niece Cindy Chapman, and husband Steve.

Additionally, he is survived by Wilminor’s children John Russell (Diane) and

William Russell (Suzanne); and her grandchildren Fendley, John, Vivian, and Cooper

Russell. Bob was a sweet and loving father, grandfather and husband. He will be greatly

missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Peters

Episcopal Church 2310 Airline Drive in Brenham, Texas with a reception following at

Fellowship Hall at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any remembrances be directed to St.

Peter’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 937, Brenham, Texas 77834.
