Robert “Bob” Haberman passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s hospital in Bryan on May 21, 2018.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Valerie Haberman, his wife Kay Haberman, and his father-in-law Jim Kelley. He is survived by Judy Huff, his daughter Kristy Bennett, son-in-law Rick Bennett, son James Haberman, daughter-in-law Christina Haberman, sister Susan Bruno, brother-in-law Joe Bruno, brother Ed Haberman, grandchildren Madison McVay, Melanie McVay, Hunter Haberman, Harper Haberman and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also survived by his close relative D’Ann Thibodaux.
Born Robert Joseph Haberman to Howard and Valerie, Bob graduated high school from Bayside High School in New York where he played baseball. He won the Abe Miller award which is the highest award given to a baseball player. Baseball brought Bob from New York to Wharton County Jr. College where he won the State Jr. College State Championship. After Wharton Bob went to Sam Houston where he was the undergraduate and graduate assistant basketball assistant. In 1970 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in teaching and then in 1972 he graduated with a Masters in Education. From there Bob went to Blinn Jr. College where he taught Physical Education and was the Assistant Baseball coach and Intermural Director. After some time at Blinn, Bob took the head baseball coach at Wharton County Jr. College. After coaching at Wharton, Bob returned back to Blinn as the Dean of Men where he stayed for 25 years before he retired as the Associate Dean of Student Services. After retiring, Bob started doing mediation services and became a mediator and volunteered at The Dispute Resolution Center where he became a distinguished mediator. This is the highest form of reconnection that a mediator can receive. After this, Bob went to work for the RR group where he continued to excel in mediations.
Bob Haberman was a great father, great brother, great grandfather, and a great friend. He always had a good joke to tell and he could make people laugh with his endless stories. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 23, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel located at 1306 W. Main St, Brenham, TX.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church located at 408 N. Baylor St., Brenham, TX. Burial to proceed at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Bob Lovelidge, Donald Spiess, Tommy Kammerer, Bill Damron, Brandie Eneks, and Bob Slays. Honorary pallbearers are Leroy Dreyer, Joe Al Picone, and Bob Williams.
