Robert Edward Hickey, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday evening, October, 24, 2011 at Gazebo Terrace with his family by his side. Robert was born in Norwood, Ohio on February 25, 1931 to James and Elizabeth Hickey, and he was raised in Knoxville and Memphis Tennessee. Robert served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Sarah Juanita Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee on June 19, 1954. On June 1, 1958, Robert graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering after three years of study. Robert worked in Los Angeles, California, Washington D.C., and Huntsville, Alabama, before moving his family to Houston, Texas where he worked for several companies in the oil and gas industry. In 1989, Robert and Juanita moved to Brenham, Texas where he owned and operated Mighty Mist Car Wash. He sold the car wash, and went to work for HDL Research Lab where he worked as a design engineer and engineering manager for 17 years. He loved the time he spent working at HDL, and he took great pride in his work. Robert was a lifelong Methodist. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brenham, Texas and the Methodist Men''s Club. He was a member of the Graham Masonic Lodge #20, Order of the Eastern Star #144, and the Arabian Temple. He was a volunteer for the Trinity Medical Center Auxiliary where he served a term as president. He volunteered and served on the board for Faith Mission in Brenham. Robert was also a member of the Brenham Police Department''s Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and Citizens on Patrol until a stroke in 2006 left him unable to participate. Robert is preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Elizabeth Hickey. He is survived by his wife Juanita Hickey; daughter and her husband, Kathy and Bob Revenaugh; son James Hickey; daughter and her husband, Nancy and Matt Cook; sister Martha Smail; brother and sister-in-law Bob and Gwen Smith; nephew Glen Smail; nieces Michelle Walker and Lara Smith; grandchildren Shanna Bryson and her husband Chris Bryson, Bobby Revenaugh, David Revenaugh, Tyler Cook and great granddaughter Ashlyn Bryson. Visitation will be at the Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, Texas on Wednesday, October, 26, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Brenham, Texas on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Dale Chance officiating. . Burial will follow at the Chappell Hill Masonic Cemetery.
