Robert Lee Jancik, Jr., 65, of Brenham, died Dec. 23, 2005, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Mr. Jancik was born February 9, 1940, in Rosenberg, Texas, to Robert L. Bob , Sr. and Madelyn Green Jancik. He was a graduate of Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg and Lamar University in Beaumont. On May 14, 1983, he married Judith Park. Mr. Jancik was a former Houston Oilers defensive back and punt return. He was an honorable mention All-American Football League cornerback for the Oilers as a rookie, with the second most kickoff returns in the history of the franchise. He was a graduate of the Houston Police Academy #37 and retired as a detective-sergeant. Survivors include his wife, Judith Jancik of Brenham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Selaura Lanee Laurie and Cody Evans of Needville and Connie and Michael Whitlock of Columbus; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Lewis and Amy Self of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Cody Cameron Evans and Lauren Whitlock; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Tesch of Abita Springs, Louisiana and Libby Johnson; and cousins, Rhett Butler, Bill Butler and Ellen Watson. Mr. Jancik was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27 in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham, with Charles Matejowsky officiating. The Houston Police Honor Guard will be present at the graveside service. Pallbearers will be Cody Evans, Michael Whitlock, Travis Sachtleben, Harvey Park, Bill Butler, Rhett Butler and Charles Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob McCloud, Jack Lee, Bert Coan and the Houston Police Department Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Boys and Girls Club of Washington County, P.O. Box 1952, Brenham, TX 77834 or Houston Police Officers Retirees Association, Family Assistance Committee, P.O. Box 2288, Houston, TX 77254-2288.
