Robert E. Nebel, age 95 passed away peacefully on October 17, 2022 at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Round Rock, Texas.
Robert was born to Forrist and Ruth Nebel near New Florence, Missouri. He spent his childhood in Troy and Jefferson City, Missouri.
After serving in the US Navy at the end of WWII, he attended the University of Missouri, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, after which he joined their graduate program. In 1980 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the College of Engineering at the university for outstanding contributions to the engineering profession.
His entire career was spent with Brown & Root, Inc., in the international engineering and construction industries. One of his first positions was located in Haiti, where he met Momo Iwakiri. They were married in Jefferson City, Missouri, and first settled in Houston, followed by Chappell Hill, and then Brenham. They were married for 61 years, before her passing in 2018.
His work took him to many countries and regions across the globe, including Australia, England and Scotland, India, Thailand, Central America, the Caribbean and throughout the Middle East. He retired as Vice President based in Manama, Bahrain. After retirement, he and Momo continued to enjoy traveling to different places, experiencing and learning about new cultures, while collecting antique furniture, works of art and books.
He was active in the United Methodist Church and for many years supported the local historical society and library in Chappell Hill, Texas.
Robert is predeceased by his wife, Momo Nebel, his father, Forrest Nebel and mother, Ruth Cleveland Harman Nebel, his brothers: Harman and wife Dixie, Marvin and wife Mary, and Rodney Nebel. He is survived and remembered with love by his daughters: Marsha and son-in-law Keith Scott, Bobbie Jean, and Heidi and son-in-law Stacy Starbuck. Also grandsons Tyler, and Matthew and his wife Marsha Scott.
A graveside service will be held at Atkinson Cemetery in Chappell Hill on November 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
