Robert Edward Preuss of Brenham was born at the home of his parents, George Edward and Ruby Naomi Layton Preuss in Bastrop Co., Texas on July 8, 1932. Robert was the eldest of three boys. He transitioned to his Heavenly Home on Aug. 3, 2015 at his home in Brenham, at the age of 83 years. Robert was known to many as Bob, to family as Ed, and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Pa. Robert was baptized and confirmed on Sept. 5, 1958 at Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville. After moving to Brenham, he joined Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church at Berlin, where he served several positions on the church council. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015 at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin, with Pastor Ken Weiss officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. In 1952 Robert met the love of his life and soul-mate, Jeanette June Wasko. He was sent to serve in the Korean War from 1953-1954 and was honorably discharged in 1961, with the rank of Sergeant. He served his country proudly. After returning from Korea, he was reunited with Jeanette, whom he married on May 11, 1956., along with their friends, J. D. and Mary Beth Claiborne, in a double ceremony. Robert and Jeanette were married 59 years, and to this union were born two children, Larry Wayne and Linda Sue. Robert was a carpenter by trade and built many homes in Brenham and Washington County. He took pride in his work, never quitting or leaving anything undone until he thought it was perfect. The last home he built was for his daughter. Robert was hardworking at anything he did. He worked from sun-up until past sun-down. He restored antique cars and tractors which he proudly displayed in parades, festivals and county fairs. He enjoyed driving around the countryside with Jeanette, and took great pride in his yard and garden. Robert was a kind, quiet, soft-spoken and loving man who taught his children and grandchildren to respect others, to love family, God, and country, and to work hard and never stop until the job was done. Robert leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Jeanette; children: Larry Sharon Preuss of La Marque; Linda Fred Koonce of Brenham; grandchildren: Martin Georgiane Gessner of Brenham, Stephanie Kevin Post of Brenham; Kristin Justin Hawkins of Boone, N.C., Stacey Preuss and friend Terry Parker of Brenham, Robert Ashley Preuss of Sealy, Lisa David Vasquez of Brenham; great-grandchildren: Ethan and Avery Gessner, Cohen and Kaiden Post and Noah, Allie, and Phoenix Vasquez, and Robert Preuss; brothers John Wanda Preuss of Clifton, Tx., and Leo Preuss of Williston, S.C., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
