Robert Eugene Thistlethwaite, 82, husband of Aleta Thistlethwaite, of Brenham, passed away January 3, 2008 in Houston. Mr. Thistlethwaite was born July 20, 1925 to James Eli and Mary Elizabeth Randolph Thistlethwaite in Rices Landing, PA He graduated from Follansbee High School, and attended the University of California at Berkeley. He was baptized July 28, 1972 at White Oak Baptist Church in Houston, and on September 29, 1972, he married Aleta Bailey, also at White Oak Baptist Church. Mr. Thistlethwaite served in the US Navy during WWII, and was employed in law enforcement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Brenham. Survivors include his wife, Aleta Thistlethwaite; son Edward Thistlethwaite and wife Lisa of Magnolia; daughters Patricia Harris and husband Robert of Stafford, and Brenda Thistlethwaite and Santo Carbonaro of Sonora, CA; step-daughter Barbara Vandever and husband Charles of Houston; stepson David Bailey and wife Christy of Katy; 17 grandchildren: Teresa and Mike Harris, Shelley, Richard and Javier Thistlethwaite, Tammy Hooper, Scott Leigh, Rocky Hernandez, Steelie Thistlethwaite, Shawna Klumb, Stori Wann, Lisa and Robert Vandever, Jonathan, Matthew, Rebecca and Erin Bailey; 11 great-grandchildren: Jordan Thistlethwaite, Blake Thistlethwaite, Tristan and Anastasia Thistlethwaite, Joshua, Aaron and Simon Leigh, Ukiah and Jadin Hernandez, Kendall Thistlethwaite, and Aiden Klumb, as well as nieces Debi Hart and Diane Hassett. He was preceded in death by parents, James and Elizabeth Betty Thistlethwaite; son Robert C. Thistlethwaite, and sister, Dorothy Taylor. A Celebration of Life for Robert Eugene Thistlethwaite will be held Monday, January 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Brenham, with Rev. Steve Ponder officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, January 6 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jim Bell, Dick Chapman, Clyde Schneider, James Presswood, George Richeson, Richard Robertson, James Stanley, Joe Robinson, Mike Auer, Roy Duff, Walker Dumenil, Bill Chastain, Brent Boren, Pat Pennington, and officers of the Oakland Police Department. Memorials may be given to M.D. Anderson Hospital, Leukemia Research, or to the First Baptist Church in Brenham. Special thanks to Clay Road Baptist Church for your generosity. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
