Roger Draehn

Roger Robert Draehn, 75, husband of Joyce Sander Draehn, passed away November 10, 2010 in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 12, 2010 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Lutheran Church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Memorial Oaks Chapel Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Roger was born December 20, 1934 in Brenham to Willie and Selma Emshoff Draehn. He was baptized February 17, 1935 in Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. William Utesch, and confirmed in the same church by Rev. W. C. Poehlmann on April 10, 1949. On June 27, 1959, he was married to Joyce Sander in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg by Rev. H. Brunotte. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Roger was retired from the construction business. He was a carpenter for many years and had a hand in many residential and commercial projects. In addition to his many hobbies, he also enjoyed gardening and cooking for his friends and family. Roger was an avid hunter, and spent many nights trailing his hounds. A favorite pastime was listening to country music. Roger spent many happy hours with his grandchildren. A member of the American Legion Post 48, the Salem and Pleasant Hill shooting clubs, he was also a member of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Draehn; sons and daughters-in-law Royce and Hilee Draehn of Brenham, and Troy and Tracy Draehn of Burton; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Bobby Mikulin Sr. of Caldwell; grandchildren: Amy Frey, Billy and Amanda Frey, Ricky and Staci Frey, Bobby Mikulin, Jr., Laura and Ethan Hollingsworth, Madison Draehn, Brittney, Kaylynn and McKenna Draehn; great-grandchildren: Dustin Frey, Sarah Frey, and Thomas Frey; brothers and sisters-in-law Willie and Marjorie Draehn of Brenham; Glenn Draehn of Austin; Lee and Hanne Draehn of Cypress; Luther and Evelyn Draehn of Copeland; Gene and JoAnn Draehn and Allan and Peggy Draehn, all of Brenham; sisters Geraldine Rybarski of Brenham, and Dianne Sager and husband Ted of Ledbetter; sister-in-law Deloris Draehn of Brenham; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Erwin and Kay Sander; Ruth and Lenard Lehmann; Dorothy and Nelson Wellmann, and Mildred and Odis Haynes, all of Brenham, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Lillie Mae and Willie Schmidt; brothers Elwood Draehn and Jimmy Draehn; sister-in-law Margaret Draehn; brother-in-law Edward Rybarski, and nephews William Draehn and Russell Draehn. Serving as pallbearers are Ralph Tiemann, Jimmy Dreyer, Dan Borchgardt, Dean Winkelmann, Gary Haevischer, and Bradley Jasinski. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Brazos Valley or to a favorite charity. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham. 979836-4564.
