Ronnie Dale Gajeske, devoted husband, father and brother, loyal friend, meticulous builder but most of all a faithful follower of Jesus Christ walked through the gates of heaven on Saturday, October 1, 2022. We praise God for Ronnie’s life and the impact he had on many and although we grieve our great loss, we are celebrating that he is now in the presence of our Holy God.
Ronnie was born May 14, 1956, in Brenham, Texas to Bennie and Elda Gajeske. He grew up in a hardworking German family and spent many hours helping his dad serve others through Gajeske Cemetery Service and taking care of cattle at the family farm. He played both baseball and football through high school and was part of winning programs for both sports – including playing in several State Championship games. He graduated from Brenham High School in 1974 and then went to Blinn College for a year before entering Texas A&M University in the fall of 1975 to study Architecture.
During his college years, Ronnie began working as a carpenter / framer for a local home builder during summer and winter breaks and developed his skills and love for that work. It was at A&M that he and Cheryl met – and went on their first date Thanksgiving weekend of their senior year and quickly knew they never wanted to be apart. They graduated together in May of 1979 with the degree of Bachelor of Environmental Design.
Following graduation, Ronnie followed Cheryl to Houston where he started his career in the commercial construction industry. They married on September 20, 1980, and recently celebrated 42 years together. Ronnie continued in the commercial construction business working on wide ranging projects including a high-rise condominium, facilities for Compaq Computers, apartments, new suites at the Astrodome and work at Ellington Field. During this time, their son Aaron was born to complete their family of three. Then in 1994, God opened the door for Ronnie to start his own business building custom homes, allowing him to focus on providing a personalized level of quality that met his high standards.
Ronnie loved being a dad and used the flexibility of being his own boss to shuttle Aaron around to numerous after school activities and took Aaron to his job sites from an early age. He passed on his love of sports to Aaron and coached many teams over the years plus accompanied him on numerous Scout campouts.
Ronnie has been blessed beyond measure by being part of the Second Baptist Church family and was an active member since joining in 1983. He served in many areas at Second, including building and driving the “Jingle Bells” float as part of the Angels of Light parade, faithful deacon and new member counselor, leading the Offertory team and serving on the Prayer team. Ronnie’s servant leadership included the many trade and craftsmen he mentored as part of his home building business. He took great pride in teaching others new skills and openly shared his faith with those he worked with and to whom he was known as Mr. Ronnie.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Elda Gajeske. He is survived by his wife Cheryl and son Aaron William of Houston and his sister Sherry Gajeske Korth and brother-in-law James Korth of Brenham, sister and brother-in-law’s Darlene and Steve Hostetler, Carol and Brad Fisher, Judy and William Herrera plus many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
