Rosa Lee Sommer, 93, of Brenham, died Aug. 18, 2004, in Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village in Brenham. Mrs. Sommer was born March 2, 1911, in the Kuykendall community of Washington County, Texas, the daughter of Henry Sr. and Minnie Boerninghaus Randermann. She was baptized June 4, 1911, in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill by Pastor Czerkus and was confirmed March 28, 1926 in the same church. She attended Kuykendall School. On July 15, 1931, she was married to Gilbert A. Sommer in St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill by Pastor Gogolin. Mrs. Sommer was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham since 1943 and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Nurses Vocational Association of Brenham. From 1951 to 1997, she was employed as a licensed vocational nurse. She worked at St. Francis, Milroy, St. Jude and Bohne Hospitals. She also worked as a salesperson at Grand Leader Department Store and Marsh s Department Store. Upon retiring from nursing, she pursued a career as a professional quilter. Mrs. Sommer was a devoted housewife and a loving mother and grandmother. Her strong faith and her model strong character were given as a gift for those who dare to follow her. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Nancy Sommer of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law, Earline and Henry Moody of Corpus Christi, Peggy Tiemann and Debbie and Ralph Tiemann, all of Brenham; sisters-in-law, Mary Randermann of Brenham, Lorena Randermann of Brenham, Avilda Schroeder of Brenham, Alma Sommer of Bay City and Lillie Sommer of Brenham; grandchildren, Terry and Suzie Moench of Corpus Christi, Sylvia and Chuck Holcomb of Abilene, Randy and Judy Tiemann of Industry, Don and Cindy Sommer of Fort Worth, Dale and Sonda Tiemann of Industry, Wade Tiemann of Brenham, Brian and Natalie Tiemann of New Ulm and Michael Tiemann of Brenham; great-grandchildren, T.W. Jr. and Emily Moench and Charlie and Elizabeth Moench, Brandee and Thomas Froebel, Dustyn Tiemann , Collyn Tiemann, Dayne and Kaylin Sommer, and Tori and Kelli Tiemann and Hailey Holcomb; one great-great-grandchild, Kaylee Froebel; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Sommer on Aug. 16, 1980; son-in-law, Edward Tiemann; sister, Lydia Randermann Light; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gilbert and Lonnie Randermann, Ervin and Lydia Randermann, Joseph Randermann, Henry Randermann Jr., Kinch Randermann, Walter and Frances Randermann and Charlie Randermann; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Velma Lee Preuss, William Schroeder, Harold Sommer, Lenora Sommer, Wilburn Sommer and Erwin and Viola Sommer. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20 in Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastors Matthew Jacobs and William Holzer officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Terry Moench Sr., Randy Tiemann, Don Sommer, Dale Tiemann, Wade Tiemann, Brian Tiemann, Michael Tiemann and Sylvia Sommer Holcomb. Honorary pallbearers will be Suzie Moench, Judy Tiemann, Sonda Tiemann, Cindy Sommer, Natalie Tiemann, Chuck Holcomb, Heather Peschel and Julie Hinze. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
