Roy Lorenz, 84, of Brenham, passed away March 27, 2008 in Trinity Medical Center. Mr. Lorenz was born December 28, 1923 to Edwin and Mathilda Naumann Lorenz in the Berlin community of Washington County. He was baptized April 27, 1924 in Salem Lutheran Church by Pastor William Utesch, and later confirmed there, also by Pastor Utesch on March 17, 1940. Mr. Lorenz was educated in Washington County schools. He served in the US Army in World War II from February 1943 until March 10, 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as a Pvt. First Class in the 803rd Field Artillery Battalion in the Phillipines and later, stateside. Mr. Lorenz worked for the Gene Mitchmore Service Station for 71/2 years, and later for Brenham Wholesale Grocery Co. for 34 years, from 1953 through 1987 as a Truck Route Supervisor. He retired on December 31, 1987. In January, 1947, he married Hilda Brending. She preceded him in death October 12, 1967. He then married Hildegarde Loesch Buchanan on March 12, 1971. Survivors include his wife, Hildegarde Lorenz; a brother, George Lorenz and wife Walline of Brenham; sisters Esther Lehmann and husband Gene of Brenham; Evelyn Blome of Houston; Dorothy King and husband Charles of Houston; Betty Schaefer and husband Billy of Temple; Mildred Holle of Brenham; Carolyn Martin and husband Richard of South Lake; sister-in-law Mary Jo Lorenz of Spring; daughter, Mary Leonard Dannhaus of Bryan; Ella Marie Bob Lossow of Houston; grandchildren Rachel Duarte of California; Dr. Jay Sampson of London, England; Matt Sampson of Houston; Shelley Harper of Leander, Brandon Dannhaus of Bryan; great-grandchildren Hannah and Tyler Sampson, Hagen Dannhaus, Hailey Breeding, and Holden Harper. Mr. Lorenz was a member of St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1947, the American Legion Post 48, Lodge#6 of the Sons of Herman, and VFW Buddy Wright Post. The funeral service for Roy Lorenz will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 29, 2008 at St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation with family present will take place Friday, March 28, 2008 at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers are Wilber Hohlt, Harold Lanford, Lloyd Schwartz, Rudy Tiemann, Ernest Weatherby, Jr., Steve Rybarski, Glenn Neutzler, Neal Reimer, and John Locke. Honorary pallbearers are all retired employees of Brenham Wholesale Grocery. Memorials may be given to St. Paul''s Lutheran Church Radio Ministry or the charity of one''s choice.
