Roy Don Winkler, 74, of Brenham, was born August 5, 1941 in Crosbyton, Texas to William Roy Winkler and Viola Sue Winkler. He passed away on January 2, 2016 in College Station, Texas after a brief illness.
On July 8, 1966, Roy married the love of his life, Barbara Young. Roy and Barbara lived in Lubbock for many years, where they raised their sons, Derek and Shane. He spent much of his life working for Cal-Maine Foods in Texas and New Mexico until he retired and moved to Brenham, Texas in 2004. Roy was a member of St. John''s United Church of Christ, a freemason, and was active in the community having previously served on the board of the Texas Cotton Gin Museum in Burton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm, Thursday January 7, 2016 at St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton, Texas. Interment is scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Afton Cemetery in Afton, Texas. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Lynette Winkler of Coppell; grandchildren: Blake Winkler and Delaney Winkler, sister and brother-in-law Lenora and Glenn Jones and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Sue Winkler, his wife Barbara, his sons Shelby and Shane, and brothers Boney Winkler and L.C. Winkler.
Serving as pallbearers are Gary Jones, David Jones, Jeff Young, James Young, Randy Young, Troy Lequerica and Steve Couch.
Memorials may be directed to St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton, Texas or the Texas Cotton Gin Museum in Burton.
