Ruben August Beisert was born December 23, 1934 in Loebau, Texas to Louis Gerhardt and Minnie (Hohle) Beisert. He was baptized December 30, 1934 in Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau by Rev. William Remmert, and confirmed March 21, 1948 in the same church by Rev. H. O. Hartfield. On October 30, 1954, he married Shirley Bernhardt in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings.
He is survived by brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Beisert; parents, Louis and Minnie Beisert; parents-in-law Albert and Leona Bernhardt. Numerous other relatives also preceded Ruben in death.
Ruben was in the drywall business for over 57 years and was the owner of A&R Wallboard. During this time, he became a respected businessman and friend, known for completing jobs on time as promised.
He was a life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Ruben raised Red Poll cattle and loved going to the open show to compete against other breeders. There are numerous trophies and plaques, evidence of his success and dedication.
In his early years, Ruben played the steel guitar and was in a popular band with his brothers. They played at many occasions, most notably at the Esquire Ballroom on Hempstead Hwy. in Houston.
After moving from Waco, Ruben lived most of his life in Houston. But his heart was always on the farm, where he raised cattle, fished, and generally enjoyed life. He loved to spend time with family and friends, joking, laughing, playing dominoes and simply enjoying everyone’s company.
His greatest love, though, was his devoted wife, Shirley. They were together in marriage for 62 years and had a love for each other that we can only hope to imitate. They were a perfect example of what a Christian marriage should be. They were faithful members of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Houston.
Ruben was an inspiration, a mentor, a shepherd, an example what a godly man should be. He was giving, selfless and loving. His family was fortunate to be a part of his life.
