Ruby Poston

Ruby Granny Poston, 87, died March 18, 2006, in Burleson, Texas. Mrs. Poston was born Feb. 20, 1919, in Dodson, La. She married Ivy Poston July 25, 1936. At age 55, Ruby went to Blinn College and after graduating, she went to work at Brenham State School. She worked there until she retired at age 71. She was a breast cancer survivor since 1979. She was valedictorian of her graduating class of Dodson. She was known as Granny to everyone. Survivors include seven children, Freddie Poston, Pat Phillips, Bobbie Hicks, Johnnie Poston, Robert Poston, Jimmy Poston and Debbie Gandy; one sister, Mary Machin; one brother, Leroy Berry; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Ruby Poston was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ivy Poston; one child, Ivy Dale Poston, brother, James Berry; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Poston. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, 2006 in Memorial Oaks Chapel with Rev. Larry Embry officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Mrs. Poston s grandsons and one granddaughter will be taking Mrs. Poston to her final resting place.
