Rufus Cone

RUFUS PETER CONE, 82, of Chappell Hill, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on July 15. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday in Memorial Oaks Chapel. K of C Rosary will follow. Mr. Cone was born June 4, 1927, in Dayton, Texas, the son of Stanley and Rose Walkoviak Cone. He attended school in Richards, Texas. On October 22, 1955 he was married to Mary Springer in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill. After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Navy. He worked for the American Can Company until 1982. He was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and working on cars and tractors. He loved living in the country, taking care of his cattle, and tending his vegetable garden. He enjoyed talking and visiting with people ½ he never met a stranger. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Diane Cone of Waller; James and Michelle Cone of Humble; daughters and sons-in-law Debbie and Frank Krotofil of Houston; Lynette and Marion Lewandowski of Houston; Denise and George Boring, III of Fort Myers, Florida. Grandchildren: Heather and Michaela Krotofil of Houston; Tim and Cathy Cone of Waller; Lisa Lewandowski of Houston; Mary Katherine, George IV, and Peter Boring of Fort Myers, Florida; and Lorelai Cone of Humble. Sisters and brothers-in-law Vickie and Emil Bednar of Houston; Irene Schonefeld of Conroe; Verna Kitkoski of Anderson; Betty and Arch Kitkoski of Conroe; and Bobbie and Ted Lapko of Friendswood. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Mary Springer Cone; parents Rose and Stanley Cone; brother Frank Cone; and sister Annie Clara Cone.
