Ruth Christine Duch, 87, passed away December 17, 2017 in Brenham.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill, with Pastor Kris Brower officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Ruth Duch was born November 24, 1930 in the Zionsville community of Washington County to Louis Sr. and Emma Westerfeld Hold. She was baptized January 1, 1932 at Berlin, TX and confirmed April 14, 1946 in the Christian faith at Zionsville, TX. On August 13, 1950, she married Albert Duch, Jr. Ruth was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she served on the cheer committee and various committees.
Gardening, sewing, and playing cards and dominoes were favorite pastimes. Ruth treasured time spent with her family, and enjoyed cooking for them. She was very fond of animals, and nursed many abandoned creatures back to health. An avid reader, her favorite books were Heidi, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Tom Sawyer, and All Creatures Great and Small.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Sandra Duch of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Mike Busby, Peggy and Hank Ward, and Barbara and Robbie Casey, all of Brenham; sisters-in-law, Lorine Hold and Dorothy Hupe, both of Brenham; grandchildren: Clint and Cendy Duch, Kelli and Clayton Collier, Mary Busby, Joshua Busby, Jennifer and Dwayne Smith, Kody Kliebert, Katy and Casey Marino, Billy Ward and friend Melissa, Jonathan Ward, Shelbi Casey and friend, Matt; great-grandchildren: Kade Smith, Sadie and Mary J. Schaub, Jack Duch, Nolan, Lilly, and Emmy Collier, Lorenzo Marino, and Halli Casey.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Duch, Jr.; her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law Nolan and Elizabeth Hold, Melvin and Barbara Hold, and Louis Hold, Jr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Henry and Helena Duch, and Reinhard Duch, and an infant grandson, Brian Busby.
Serving as pallbearers are Clint Duch, Kody Kliebert, Jonathan Ward, Billy Ward, Joshua Busby, Clayton Collier, Dwayne Smith, and Matt Chandler. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
Ruth's daughter, Barbara, took loving care of her mother for the years prior to her death.
Memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill.
