Ruth Aileen (Henske) Emshoff, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 4, 2019.
Ruth was born October 2, 1925, in New Wehdem, Texas, the daughter of Theodore and Emilie (Lueckemeyer) Henske. She grew up in Austin County and attended school in New Wehdem. She was baptized December 6, 1925, by Rev. H. A. Heineke at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem and confirmed March 17, 1940, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brenham by Rev. Theo. Streng.
On July 27, 1946, she married Herbert Emshoff at St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem by Rev. G. C. Senff. They resided in Brenham, Texas.
Ruth was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the church’s Tuesday Evening Circle. She also served for many years on the Cradle Roll. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Ruth was employed by the Brenham ISD for 28 years. She retired when her husband became ill and needed her care. It is fair to say that she was an independent person and worked hard her whole life beginning with the loss of her father at the age of nine.
At home, Ruth was first a wonderful wife and mother. With her free time she loved to sew, quilt, and work in the yard where she grew beautiful flowers. She also loved to bake cakes, cookies, and her favorite fruit pizza. Later in life, Ruth loved volunteering at the Senior Activity Center for 14 years until her death. She genuinely cared for people. Also, let’s don’t forget her love for the Astros! At 90, she went to Minute Maid Park to see a game, and at home she hardly missed watching a game on TV calling to ask if we saw a particular play.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Emshoff, parents, Theodore and Emilie Henske, four sisters, Ella Mae Henske, Hattie Engeling, Gladys Tiemann, and Frances Garling, brothers-in-law, Raymond Engeling and Henry Tiemann.
She is survived by her loving family, daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Gale Welch of Houston, son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Julie Emshoff of Fort Worth, three grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Smith, Blake Tyler Welch, and Jena Lyn Emshoff, four great grandchildren, Madison Lynn Smith, Mackenzie Gale Smith, Tyler Patrick Smith, and Hunter James Keith, brother-in-law, Allen Garling of Bellville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m.., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, with burial to follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements for Ruth Aileen Emshoff are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham. To post a tribute to the family, visit www.memorialoakschapel.com.
