Ruth Pauline Stockdale, widow of Paul Stockdale, passed away Thursday, October 28, at her home in Chappell Hill surrounded by her family. She was born October 22, 1910 in Pine Creek, Michigan to Allie Mae and Edwin Lewis Kent. Mrs. Stockdale was a graduate of Battle Creek, Michigan High School and Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge where she received the Borden Award for Excellence. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and served as a member of the Altar Guild for many years. She was also a member of the Chappell Hill Canasta Club and she and her husband were charter members of the Chappell Hill Historical Society. As the wife of a military officer, Mrs. Stockdale traveled and lived in many parts of the world including The Philippines, China, Japan, England and Scotland. After retirement, Ruth and her husband lived in Houston where they were active members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and School and Mr. Stockdale was Headmaster. In 1963, the Stockdales moved to Chappell Hill where they restored Waverly Plantation and lived for the remainder of their lives. Ruth was a lovely lady whose grace and kindness will be ever-remembered by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Florence Kent Fosse and an infant grandson Thomas Paul Sanders. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn and husband Gus Sanders of Chappell Hill and by grandchildren, Nancy Sanders Strebeck and husband Lonnie, Jane Sanders Menefee and husband Len, Julie Sanders Edwards and husband Jack, and Martha Sanders Jackson. Also, great grandchildren Cari Strebeck Shoemate and husband Ben, Chris and Jennifer Menefee, Jake Menefee, Alice Strebeck, Andy Jackson, Kelley Jackson, Ben Jackson and Lloyd and Brenda Edwards. Her great-great grandsons are Parker Menefee, Tyler Edwards and Brian Edwards. The family would like to thank Dr. Phillip Alexander for providing loving care and support for many years during her long and healthy life. Also, the family thanks the Hospice care nurses and aides who provided good care and support in her last days. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter s Episcopal Church, Brenham, Texas, Saturday, October 30 at 2 p.m. with burial at Atkinson Cemetery, Chappell Hill immediately following the service. The Reverend Neil F. Scotty Innes will officiate.
