Sammy Schlabach

Sammy Quints Schlabach, 69, of Brenham, died at his home on Wednesday, June 20, 2007. Sammy and his twin sister, Joyce, were born on August 26, 1937 in Milroy Hospital to Walter and Hilma Heins Schlabach. Sammy was baptized in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine on December 20, 1949. He was later confirmed in the same church on May 1, 1951. Sammy attended Latium and Wesley schools and Burton High School. From his early childhood until the family moved into Brenham, Sammy worked in the family general store in Latium. Sammy then went to work for the Lone Star Beer distributor in Brenham. He was a route salesman for over 20 years. He married Beverly Wellbrock on December 19, 1970 in Salem Lutheran Church of Brenham. Since retiring from Lone Star, Sammy enjoyed gardening and watching sports on television. He had as many as three gardens growing at one time. Sammy loved to watch the Houston Astros and could regularly be found fussing at the television in the kitchen. He also loved to watch football and would keep up with all the scores each week. Sammy also had a very special place in his heart for all of his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He loved to spend time with them and watch them as they grew up. Sammy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Beverly; sons, Keith Schlabach and wife Thresia of Washington; Chad Schlabach and wife, Vanessa of Brenham; daughter, Lana Schlabach and fiancé Jose Rodriguez of Brenham; five grandchildren: Rayna Nicole Schlabach of Spring, Tx.; Kash Lane Rodriguez of Brenham; Hunter Allen Schlabach of Washington and Kaylyn Michelle and Kaylie Nicole Rodriguez of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Leon Mantey and sister-in-law Ester Schlabach, all of Brenham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Mary Wellbrock of Brenham; Glenn and Leslie Wellbrock of New Braunfels, Ricky and Rhonda Wellbrock of Brenham; Ronnie and Karen Wellbrock of Georgetown, and Kenny and Sandy Wellbrock of Brenham; sister-in-law Margie Patterson of Baytown. Sammy was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends. Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Hilma Heins Schlabach; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Martin and Elnora Wellbrock, brother Wollie Schlabach, grandson Justin Lane Schlabach, and nephew, Leonard Martin "Bubba" Wellbrock, Jr. Services will be held at 10 a.m.. Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Salem Lutheran Church. Pastors Charles Parnell and Lydia Paterson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, June 22, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Clinton Mantey, Walter Schlabach, Donald Meier, Timmy Mantey, Joe Green and Johnnie Eckert. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy s grandchildren, along with Roger Buchtien, Cody Patterson, Franklin Eckert and Franklin Menn. Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church of Brenham or to Southern Care Hospice, of College Station. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
