Selma Franke

Selma Marie Schaefer Franke, 97, of Brenham, died on October 29, 2011 at her residence. She was the widower of Herman Paul Franke. Funeral arrangements are for Wednesday November 2, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. from the Eben Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Ken Weiss Lay minister officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Selma was born on October 17, 1914 to Theodore and Ella Huebner Schaefer, in Bleiberville, Austin County. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome. Selma was educated at Blieberville School. On November 27, 1947 Selma married Herman Paul Franke at St James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. Selma was a member of Eben Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin and the Ladies Aid. Selma enjoyed going to the Brenham Cubs football and baseball games, the Houston Astros. She like attending Hot Nights and Cool Tunes in the summer. She attended the Demolition Derby in October for her birthday and the crowd sang Happy Birthday to her. Selma enjoyed cross stitching and giving it to the grandchildren as a wedding gift. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Angelie Franke of Brenham, daughters; Betty Goerlitz, Ruth Maass, all of Brenham, sister; Christine Rust; a brother and sister-in-law Melvin and Alice Schaefer all of Bryan, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends LeViola Maass and Fran Rucks. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Herman, a brother; Walter and sister-in-law; Lillie Schaefer and a sons-in-law Jerry Maass and Daniel Goerlitz, sister and brothers-in-law Elise and Walter Hahn and Wilfred Rust Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Franklin Goerlitz, Charles Franke Jr., Jason Maass, Jeffrey Maass, Kevin Burnett, Steve Borgstedte, and Joe Shell. Honorary Pallbearers are; Tammy Burnett, Shawna Goerlitz, Olivia Borgstedte, Melissa Grimm, Erin Shell, Emily Maass, Christina and Carter Burnett, Taylor Goerlitz, Clayton Grimm, Brandon and Jack Shell, Nicole and Madelyn Borgstedte, Avery and Madison Maass and Larissa Studhalter. Memorials my be given to Eben Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin.
