Sharon Scott

February 1, 1945 — January 27, 2025

Sharon Harmel Scott, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on January 27, 2025, just days before her 80th birthday. The world lost one of its kindest and most generous souls on this day.

Born on February 1, 1945, in Burton, Texas, Sharon was a proud member of the Burton community. Known affectionately as "Sharp Shootin' Sharon," she was a standout on the Burton Panther basketball team. She was also celebrated as the homecoming queen and a cheerleader, roles that expressed her vibrant spirit and love for her school and town. Sharon's greatest joy, however, came from being surrounded by family and friends, and she was happiest in the company of those she loved.

Sharon had a lifelong passion for dancing and could always be counted on to bring joy to any occasion. Her talent and enthusiasm extended into many other areas of life. She was an active member of the Burton Heritage Society and dedicated many years to serving as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Brenham, where she held numerous leadership positions and shared her musical gifts by playing both the organ and piano for over forty years.

A woman of many talents, Sharon excelled at baking, sewing, gardening, and music. In her later years, she perfected her baking recipes and often entered competitions, showcasing her creative and culinary skills. Her family and friends were always the happy recipients of her delicious baked goods.

She is survived by her children: Shane Scott (Amy) of Lake Jackson, TX; September Scott of Burton, TX; Summer Scott-Sexton (Tim) of Los Angeles, CA; and Stayton Scott of Burton, TX. Sharon's legacy also lives on through her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jeronimo, Audrey (Kyle), Riley (Nicole), Lainey, Martina, Korbin, Eliseo, Ariella, Max, and Madelyn, all of whom knew her as "Grandma Dearest."

Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Giles; her son, Spencer Scott; her parents, Walter and Nellie Harmel; her sister, Brenda Harmel Goodson; and her brother, Aubrey Harmel.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks in Brenham. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Brenham. The graveside service will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery, 2222 FM 1948, Burton, Texas, with a reception to follow at the church, 1400 Niebuhr Street, Brenham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Burton Heritage Society at https://www.burtonheritagesociety.org/donate.
